Tesla Lends Shade to Model X Owners

Tesla Motors Inc. has notified owners of its Model X crossover vehicles that it plans to mail them a free windshield shade system.

The removable device is designed to fit over the upper portion (above the rearview mirror) of the interior of the vehicle’s panoramic windshield. When it’s in place, Tesla says, the mesh fabric will block 66% of the sunlight and heat in the covered area.

Owners have complained about the blinding greenhouse effect they’re exposed to on bright sunny days. They say the Model X’s existing solar tinting provides insufficient protection.
