Tesla Motors Inc. has discontinued the entry-level 60D version of its Model X electric crossover vehicle.
Tesla Motors Inc. has discontinued the entry-level 60D version of its Model X electric crossover vehicle.
The carmaker had cut the price of the Model X 60D by $9,000 to $74,000 (before tax credits) in July. Discontinuing the model entirely makes the 75D, which starts at $85,500, the lowest-priced Model X trim level.
The other remaining variants are the 90D and upcoming P100D, with the numbers corresponding to a vehicle’s battery capacity (60-, 75-, 90- and 100-kWh). The more powerful batteries boost driving range from 200 miles for the 60D to 287 miles for the P100D.
Separately, Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday said the carmaker will unveil an unspecified new product on Oct. 17. He didn’t provide any other details but described the product as being “unexpected by most.”
Media reports note that the announcement could be a new variant of the Model X or Model S sedan, more information about the upcoming Model 3 car, a new battery charging system, an update to Tesla’s Autopilot driver-assist technology or something else entirely.
