Veronica Wu, who took over as president of Tesla Motors Inc.'s China unit has resigned after less than nine months in the post, Bloomberg News reports.

Wu joined the California-based electric car maker from Apple Inc.'s China office a year ago. She was promoted this year to succeed Tesla China President Kingston Chang, who left abruptly in March.

Tesla says Tom Zhu, who has headed the company's charger network development program in China, will step in as operational leader. Tesla has been rushing to set up an array of chargers in China to support its sales effort there.

The company began taking orders online in August and launched deliveries of its Model S luxury EV sedan, which retails for more than $121,000 in China, in April.
