Tata Motors Ltd. has named Guenter Butschek, a former Daimler executive and current chief operating officer at Airbus Group SE, to become its CEO. The Indian carmaker says he will join the company by Feb. 15.

The 55-year-old Butschek will lead all Tata Motors operations in India and elsewhere. The Mumbai-based company’s U.K.-based Jaguar Land Rover unit will continue to be run by CEO Ralf Speth.

Tata Motors has been without a CEO since Karl Slym died two years ago after what police described as an apparent suicide in Bangkok. Chairman Cyrus Mistry has been leading the company since then.

Butschek graduated in business administration and economics from the University of Cooperative Education in Stuttgart, Germany. At Daimler, he rose to the position of CEO of Beijing Benz Automotive Co. before joining Airbus Group in Leiden, Netherlands, in 2012.
