Takata Corp. is readying a plan to restructure itself and reach accord with carmakers on a co-pay deal involving the cost of recalling the supplier’s exploding airbag inflators, sources tell Bloomberg News.

Takata expects to present the scheme in early May and hopes to reach agreement with carmakers on recall payments by the end of the month, according to the news service.

A dozen manufacturers began recalling cars and trucks more than seven years ago to replace Takata inflators that could blast metal shards into the passenger compartment. At least 10 fatalities and 130 injuries have been blamed on the defect. Roughly 40 million vehicles—more than half of them in the U.S.—have been recalled to date.
