Suzuki Motor Corp. has broken ground for a new 5 billion-yuan ($790 million) passenger-vehicle factory in Chongqing in southwestern China.

Suzuki Motor Corp. has broken ground for a new 5 billion-yuan ($790 million) passenger-vehicle factory in Chongqing in southwestern China.

The facility is scheduled to open in December 2013 with annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The venture plans to boost capacity to 250,000 units by 2015.

The plant is the second for Suzuki's joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. The partnership's existing factory in Chongqing has annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles.
