Suzuki Motor Corp. has named Toshihiro Suzuki, 57, to assume the role of CEO from his father Osamu, 86, who will remain as chairman. The moves were widely expected.

Osamu Suzuki announced earlier this month he would step down as CEO and take responsibility for testing errors that inflated the fuel economy ratings for several of the company’s vehicles. But he said he intended to continue as chairman to help prevent the illegal testing methods from being repeated.

Analysts suggest that Osamu’s continuing role as chairman means he will largely run the company as he has since 1978. His son Toshihiro was named president last year.
