Subaru brand vehicles maintain higher proportional value (46%) after five years than any other mainstream cars sold in America, according to Kelley Blue Book's annual ranking.
Subaru, a unit of Japan's Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., is closely followed by Chevrolet and Toyota. KBB says all three brands retain about 46% of their value over the period.
This year's top luxury brands and their retained values are Lexus (42%), Porsche (36%) and Acura (36%).
Interestingly, the top 10 vehicles by model all are trucks or SUVs none of them Subaru models. The group is led by the Toyota Tacoma pickup (60%), Jeep Wrangler SUV (59%) and the Toyota Tundra, Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups (each 58%).
KBB notes that Subaru has nearly tripled its volume in the U.S. to 513,700 units over the past six years. Yet the brand continues to offer far smaller sales incentives than virtually any of its rivals.
