Subaru-maker Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.’s new XV concept model previews the next-generation compact crossover (known as the Crosstrek in the U.S. and XV in other markets).

Unveiled at this week’s Geneva auto show, the XV concept showcases the brand’s “Dynamic X Solid” design language, which will be used on a variety of upcoming models. The vehicle rides on a new modular architecture that also will carry the redesigned Impreza compact car due later this year.

The sporty concept features a prominent belt line, while maintaining the current Crosstrek’s squat stance. Its new headlamps are integrated into the front bumper.

Sales of the current Crosstrek jumped 25% last year in the U.S. to nearly 89,000 units. Introduced in late 2012, the Crosstrek is the top-selling vehicle in the compact crossover segment, outpacing rivals such as the Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V and Jeep Renegade.
