Subaru Corp.’s r&d arm plans to open a 60,000-sq-ft technical center 20 miles west of Detroit.
The $48 million facility will occupy 76 acres of land and employ about 100 people when it opens in 2020. Subaru currently operates a staff of about 30 people in an office 10 miles further west in Ann Arbor. The project is supported by $1.5 million in state aid.
In January Subaru invested $2 million in the nearby American Center for Mobility, a 500-acre proving ground for connected and self-driving vehicles.
