Kia Motors Corp. is recalling its Soul compact MPV in the U.S. to fix a faulty steering system. The campaign affects more than 256,000 vehicles built between the 2014 and 2016 model years.
The company says a thread-locking adhesive may not be strong enough to hold the steering pinion to the steering gear assembly. As a result, the pinion gear could separate from the assembly and cause a loss of steering.
Dealers have reported three failures since September. None involved crashes or injuries, according to Kia. To repair the problem, technicians will inspect and replace the steering pinion plug if necessary. A set bolt also will be installed for additional reinforcement.
