Former Saab Automobile owner Spyker Cars NV says it will appeal a U.S. federal judge's decision last week to throw out its $3 billion ($2.2 billion) lawsuit against General Motors Co.

The Dutch performance car maker sued GM last summer for allegedly pushing the Swedish carmaker into bankruptcy in 2011 by blocking Spyker's attempt to sell Saab to China's Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Co.

When GM sold Saab to Spyker in 2010, it retained rights to technology it previously contributed to the Swedish brand. The judge agreed with GM that the sale agreement required Spyker to obtain the American company's permission before selling or licensing those technologies.
