Siemens AG and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. have partnered to make electric powertrain components in China for an array of BAIC vehicles.

The companies' new venture, Beijing Siemens Automotive E-Drive System Co., expects to begin prototype production this year of electric drive motors, inverters and power control modules.

High-volume output from a new factory in Beijing will launch in 2015. The partners say the facility will be able to make more than 100,000 component sets per year.

BAIC will use the venture's output for electrified versions of its S, C and L car series with power levels ranging from 45 kW to 200 kW. The partners envision their venture eventually supplying other EV and hybrid manufacturers in China.
