Toyota Motor Corp. is launching a worldwide recall of 885,000 Avalon and Camry sedans and Venza crossovers to fix a leakage problem that could affect the power steering and airbag systems.
About 803,000 of the cars mostly 2012-2013 Camrys were sold in the U.S.
Toyota says water collecting in the air-conditioning system can leak into the vehicle's airbag control module and cause a short-circuit that could either trigger the airbags or render them inoperable.
Water in the airbag module also could disable the vehicle's electric power steering system, according to the company.
