Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling about 184,200 of its 2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs to fix a short circuit risk in the occupant restraint control module.
FCA's global recall involves 126,800 vehicles in the U.S., 11,800 in Canada and Mexico and 45,600 outside North America.
A short circuit within the module could disable the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, according to the company.
The problem is similar to one that prompted Ford Motor Co. to recall 850,000 of its 2013-2014 cars and crossovers last month. Both campaigns reportedly involve modules supplied by Robert Bosch GmbH.
