Federal safety officials are investigating shattering glass sunroofs on Sorento SUVs made by Kia Motors Co. after receiving 15 complaints about the problem.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says as many as 64,000 Sorentos from 2001 to 2013 model years could be affected by the potential defect. Kia says its own investigation suggests debris or hail damage is at fault.
NHTSA announced its Kia probe as Volkswagen AG announced it will recall 1,100 of its 2013-2014 model Audi A8 and S8 large sedans to replace sunroofs that may shatter unexpectedly.
