September Car Sales Rise 9% in U.K.

New-car registrations in the U.K. climbed to 462,500 units last month from 425,900 in September 2014, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reports. It was the market's 43rd consecutive year-on-year gain.

Sales in the U.K. through the first nine months of 2015 totaled 2.1 million units, up 7% compared with the same period last year. Sales last surpassed 2 million for the period in 2004.

SMMT says September sales rose in all sectors, led by gains in gasoline vehicles (+12% to 237,900 units) and sales to fleets (+15% to 207,700 units). Diesel sales rose 4% to 212,500.
