Volkswagen AG’s SEAT unit will introduce a new design language next year with the all-new Leon hatchback.
The styling of future models will be bolder with fewer straight lines and sharp edges, design boss Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos tells Autocar. He says the approach will help differentiate SEAT—including the unit’s upcoming electric vehicles—from other VW Group brands, providing a bigger gap between similar-sized models such as the Leon, Audi A3 and VW Golf.
There will be “far fewer structured lines” that simply connect two points of a vehicle, Mesonero-Romanos explains. He describes the design as “sensual” with surfaces that need to be touched to be fully appreciated.
SEAT introduced its current design language with the 2012 Leon. The next-generation Leon will be previewed in concept form at the Geneva auto show in March.
