The newly formed Electric GT Championship race series will kick off its inaugural season November 25 at the Circuit Paul Ricard course in Le Castellet, France.
Announced last autumn, the single-make series will feature specially equipped versions of Tesla Inc.’s Model S P100D sedan, which the company stopped producing in 2014. The race car generates 778 hp and can sprint from zero to 62 mph in 2.1 seconds.
The second race will be held at a yet-to-be-determined location next January. This will be followed by events in Portugal, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, U.K. and Spain.
Race days will consist of a practice session, qualifications and two rounds of racing. Similar to the three-year-old Formula E series, Electric GT will host a festival to entertain and inform racegoers about electric vehicle technologies.
