Scania AB new line of Streamline large commercial trucks combine air deflectors and second-generation Euro 6-compliant V-8 engines that can boost long-haul fuel economy 8%, according to the company.
The new trucks are fitted with low-drag transmissions and tuned to maximize fuel efficiency on long hauls. Scania's Opticruise option features predictive cruise control system that anticipates hills and adjusts engine operation accordingly. Drivers also can choose among standard, economy, power and off-road modes.
Scania is rolling out a lineup of second-generation Euro 6 engines, including two new diesels rated at 450 hp and 490 hp. Other choices include new 520-hp and 580-hp V-8s both based on the same architecture used in the new top-of-the-line 730-hp powerplant.
The company says the new 580-hp Euro 6 engine offers a wider torque peak and fatter power curve that delivers performance equivalent to Scania's 620-hp Euro 5 engine.
Rounding out the company's Euro 6-compliant range are four 6-cylinder engines rated between 370 hp and 490 hp and seven 5-cylinder diesel, ethanol and gas/biogas powerplants that make between 250 hp and 360 hp.
