South Korean regulators are preparing to levy fines totaling 70 billion won ($63 million) against BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche for disobeying emission certification rules, Reuters reports.

All three will receive relatively mild fines for failing to obtain government approval for changes in pollution control systems before selling cars in the country. The environment ministry also has asked for a probe into a possible violation of import laws.

BMW will be fined more severely for submitting falsified emission test results. The ministry says it also will cancel the company’s fuel economy certifications next week and temporarily suspend the sale of 28 models, Reuters reports.

BMW describes the falsified data as a case of inadvertent documentation error. The company says it is cooperating with the government investigation and will take steps to avoid a recurrence of the problem.
