South Korea will decide by year-end whether to add a seventh digit to its six-digit vehicle license plates, the Korea Herald says.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport says the extra digit, along with a letter from the Korea alphabet, would enable it to accommodate an additional 210 million new cars and prepare for “the era of a reunified Korea.”
The government is collecting public opinion about the plan through Dec. 2. If approved, the new license plates would go into use next September.
