Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd. estimates about half the passenger vehicles sold worldwide are SUVs or crossovers. But it hasn't yet decided whether to develop one of its own, Autocar reports.

"We're looking seriously into it," acknowledges Peter Schwarzenbauer, the BMW AG board member in charge of the group's ultra-luxury marque.

But he tells the British enthusiast magazine no decision has been made, mainly because the company hasn't yet developed a compelling design that "looks like a Rolls-Royce." Without the right style, he declares, "We're not going to do it."

The brand had been expected to introduce its own SUV in 2017, a year after Bentley does the same, according to Autocar. The magazine says a Rolls SUV would likely be priced at more than 200,000 (€252,500) and cater primarily to wealthy Chinese entrepreneurs.
