Reports: Renault, France to File Charges Against Ghosn

Renault SA and the French government are preparing a lawsuit against former Chairman Carlos Ghosn over €11 million ($12 million) in questionable expenses charged to the company, according to media reports.
French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire tells BFM television that the state will turn over results of an audit and declares “there will be a complaint.” Ghosn’s legal team in Japan says it was surprised to learn about the probe and protested that Ghosn hadn’t been asked to explain the payments.
Renault, which is 15% owned by France, says its investigation turned up irregularities concerning expenditures by Renault-Nissan BV, the Dutch holding company that controls the carmaker’s alliance with Nissan Motor Co.
RNBV was chaired by Ghosn before his arrest last November on charges of financial wrongdoing at Nissan. Renault says the audit turned up unwarranted air travel costs and questionable gifts made to nonprofit organizations.
Earlier this month, the Financial Times reports that French prosecutors were investigating payments made by the holding company to high-profile consultants.
