Volkswagen AG is preparing to reassign Klaus-Gerhard Wolpert, its top product strategist, to the group's heavy-trucks operations, according to media reports in Germany.

Manager Magazin first reported Wolpert's impending departure, citing unidentified sources. Reuters cites its own source who verifies the move. In his new role, Wolpert will oversee modular production efforts by VW's Scania and MAN commercial truck units, according to the reports.

Wolpert has been responsible for strategies affecting more than 100 of VW Group's models since he replaced Matthias Mueller in October 2010. Reuters says his reassignment apparently is related to the company's effort to hike sales and reduce manufacturing costs.
