Volkswagen AG’s supervisory board is expected to decide on Monday whether suspended Audi CEO Rupert Stadler should give up his position, according to Der Spiegel.
Stadler as been in jail since mid-June after being accused of interfering with an investigation into diesel emission cheating at Audi. Der Spiegel says Stadler is presumed innocent unless proven guilty but will be asked to step down because he cannot perform his CEO duties.
Since Stadler’s incarceration, Audi sales and marketing chief Abraham Schot has served as interim CEO. He joined Audi from Daimler AG in 2011 and is considered a candidate to succeed Stadler. In July, Audi also hired former BMW AG purchasing chief Markus Duesmann, who reportedly could get the post.
