An independent governance committee set up by Nissan Motor Co. opposes the suggestion that Renault SA’s chairman also head Nissan’s board, sources tell Reuters.

The panel was created to review Nissan’s management procedures in the wake of the arrest of Carlos Ghosn, the former chair of both companies, on charges of financial wrongdoing at Nissan. Renault owns 43% of the Japanese carmaker.

The committee is expected to present formal recommendations in March about corporate governance and executive compensation. Previous reports indicate the panel will suggest that Nissan appoint two chairmen: one to head the company and a an outside director to lead the board.
