New-car sales in western Europe climbed 14% to 1.1 million units last month, aided by an extra selling day this year, according to LMC Automotive.
Trade groups reported last week that May sales rose 12% in Germany, 22% in France, 27% in Italy and 21% in Spain.
But new-car sales in the U.K. gained less than 3%, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. SMMT suggests the slow growth reflects uncertainty among consumers about the U.K.’s possible withdrawal from the EU.
LMC estimates full-year new-car sales in western Europe will expand 6% to 14.1 million units in 2016.
