Renault SA says it has designed its next-generation Scenic small minivan to be a “more modern and sexier" people mover.

The company will unveil the vehicle in production form next week at the Geneva auto show. The new Scenic will go on sale in the second half of 2016.

The car features sleeker lines and a broader stance than its predecessor. Renault says the car retains the same interior roominess, and it will continue to be offered in 5- and 7-passenger versions. But the look of the new Scenic sheds the traditionally boxy look of minivans and adopts the sportier style of a crossover.

The original Scenic debuted in 1996 as a minivan variant of the Megane small sedan. It quickly became Europe’s best-selling minivan and held that position until being displaced in 2014 by the Citroen C4 Picasso. The Scenic and Picasso together account for nearly 40% of Europe’s minivan market.
