Renault SA says it will begin negotiations with its unions in France next week about a new labor agreement that would give the company a "sound and permanent" foundation to maintain domestic manufacturing and R&D.
Renault is seeking concessions to boost productivity and lower costs. The company warns that the 20% drop in the European auto market since 2007 "appears to be structural."
But Renault says it will seek "innovative solutions" to preserve operations in France. The company, in which the French government owns a 15% stake, has thus far avoided plant closings.
