Renault SA says it will begin negotiations with its unions in France next week about a new labor agreement that would give the company a "sound and permanent" foundation to maintain domestic manufacturing and R&D.

But Renault says it will seek "innovative solutions" to preserve operations in France. The company, in which the French government owns a 15% stake, has thus far avoided plant closings.
