Renault Teases “Secret” Crossover
Renault SA says its upcoming compact crossover vehicle will be called the Arkana.
Renault SA says its upcoming compact crossover vehicle will be called the Arkana when it goes on sale next year.
The carmaker, which plans to publicly unveil the vehicle at next week’s Moscow auto show, has released several teaser images of the Arkana. The name is derived from the Latin word “arcanum,” which means secret or mystery.
The all-new model features a raised ride height, narrow headlights and a coupe-like roofline. Renault’s latest design language also has been applied to the Arkana’s grille. The rear gets a pronounced trunk lip and taillights that run nearly the full width of the tailgate.
The Arkana will share a platform with Renault’s Captur crossover and the larger Kaptur variant it sells in Russia. Renault-Nissan also uses the architecture for the Dacia Duster and its Nissan Terrano twin.
The Arkana will be produced at Renault's factory near Moscow, which also builds the Kaptur, Duster and Terrano. Russia is Renault’s second-largest market after France. Renault also is expected to sell vehicles based on the Arkana in Brazil, China, Europe and South Korea.
