The Renault-Nissan alliance is purchasing French software development company Sylpheo to help expand their connected vehicle and mobility services programs. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
The acquisition, which includes Sylpheo's 40 engineers and consultants, is part of Renault-Nissan’s plan to add 300 technology experts. The Sylpheo team will develop applications for the alliance's connected car service platform as part of the carmakers’ new Connected Vehicles and Mobility Services unit headed by Ogi Redzic.
The new services, such as ride-hailing and car-sharing, will be integrated with autonomous driving technologies. Renault and Nissan previously announced plans to launch more than 10 models equipped with autonomous drive technology by 2020.
