India’s carmaking center in Chennai is bracing for at least two more days of record-level monsoon rains that have forced Ford, Daimler and Nissan to suspend production since Monday.

The widely flooded region also hosts assembly operations for Hyundai and the Renault-Nissan alliance. Forecasters say the region’s worst rains in a century aren’t likely to end until Sunday.

Bloomberg News reports that damages to businesses in the area could reach 150 billion rupees ($2.2 billion), according to the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India. The trade group describes local conditions as “total chaos.” Government officials put India's death toll for the monsoon season to date at 269.
