Canada’s Quebec province and Nissan Motor Co. are launching a program under which Canadians can qualify for C$4,000 ($3,000) in government incentives by buying a used Nissan Leaf electric sedan.

The plan involves an unspecified number of 2013-2014 model Leafs that previously were registered outside Quebec, Automotive News reports.

Nissan will recondition the EVs and equip them with such Canadian requirements as metric instrumentation, a cold-weather package and a port that accepts a quick-charge, direct-current plug. AN says Nissan also is offering special loan and lease options for the cars.

The initiative is part of a pilot program Quebec launched earlier this year that aims to put 100,000 electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles on the road by 2020.
