PSA Peugeot Citroen says its upscale DS brand will begin local production of a China-specific model, the 4S five-door hatch, early next year at its factory in Shenzhen.
PSA unveiled the car at the Guangzhou auto show earlier this month. The car will be offered with a choice between two 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engines. The naturally aspirated unit makes 136 hp, and the brand’s first turbocharged version in China delivers 204 hp. Both powerplants will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 4S joins two other DS models currently made in China: the 5LS sedan and 6 crossover vehicle.
PSA relaunched the DS brand—a luxury marque it offered in 1955-1975—five years ago as a high-end trim level for its Citroen lineup. The company made DS a separate sub-brand in 2014.
