PSA to Unveil 340-hp Hybrid at Beijing Auto Show

PSA Peugeot Citroen says it will tease its future design direction for vehicles marketed in China when it unveils the Peugeot Exalt plug-in hybrid at the Beijing auto show this weekend.
The five-door hatchback, which sports a bare steel body and rear surfaces covered with a red "shark skin" material, was inspired by the Onyx concept PSA debuted at the Paris auto show in 2012.
The car's 340-hp powertrain consists of a 1.6-liter, 270-hp 4-cylinder gasoline engine and 6-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels and a 50 kW electric motor powering the rears.
The 3700-lb (1,700 kg) Exalt rides on the same platform that carries the Peugeot 308 small car PSA introduced last autumn.
PSA says the car's hand-formed body evokes French cars from the 1920s and 1930s. Inside, the upper door panels are covered with ebony wood panels created by Chinese artists.
