PSA Peugeot Citroen CEO Carlos Tavares tells reporters in Shanghai the company would consider expanding its small-car development alliance with Toyota Motor Corp. to include other carmakers.

The purpose would be to spread future product development costs and share production capacity, Tavares says. He adds that greater collaboration in today's "tough" business conditions would make sense for all partners.

Toyota and PSA co-developed an A-segment car and began co-producing three variants in the Czech Republic a decade ago. The models are marketed as the Citroen C1, Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo.
