PSA Peugeot Citroen shrugged off as "purely speculative" a report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that General Motors Co.'s Opel unit will produce the Peugeot 508 and Citroen DS5 midsize sedans at a plant in Russelsheim, Germany.
The newspaper, which cites an internal Opel document, says the GM unit would start building the DS5 in 2015 and the 508 in 2016. Opel tells FAZ that the document upon which its report was based is a "rough mixture of speculation and untruths."
PSA notes that its talks with new alliance partner GM are ongoing. The partners have said they expect to formulate a plan by year-end.
Analysts have speculated that PSA will make the Opel Zafira MPV, and Opel will produce midsize cars for the French carmaker. A June report in FAZ quoted senior German labor officials who said such an exchange would allow PSA to close its car factory in Rennes, France.
