Production Version of Sporty Kia GT Coming Soon?

Kia Motors Corp. is expected to show an updated version of its four-year-old GT sporty concept vehicle later this year or in early 2016, according to multiple media reports.

Described as virtually production ready, the revised model could be unveiled in November at the Los Angeles auto show or at the Detroit auto show in January. Reports say the car could go on sale by the end of 2016.

Kia showed the original GT sedan as a design study model at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show. The updated version likely will be less stylish and more practical, which likely would nix the original's rear-hinged back doors and carbon fiber wheels. The 2011 model was powered by a 390-hp 3.3-liter V-6 engine mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
