Toyota Motor Corp. will install Takeshi Uchiyamada, who headed development of the company's Prius hybrid vehicle, as its new chairman in June, according to The Nikkei, which cites no sources.
The Tokyo-based newspaper says he will succeed Fujio Cho, 75, who may continue as an advisor to the carmaker.
Uchiyamada, 66, was promoted to vice chairman last year. He previously directed Toyota's technology development activities and has helped lead the company's new-model programs since 2005.
Toyota also will name new presidents for its Daihatsu Motor minicar and Hino Motors truck subsidiaries, The Nikkei reports.
The newspaper says two executive vice presidents, Masanori Mitsui at Daihatsu and Yasuhiko Ichihashi at Hino, will be promoted to presidents of their units in June.
