Porsche AG plans to offer a wagon version of its Panamera sedan in the U.S. about two years from now.
But Klaus Zellmer, who heads Porsche operations in the U.S., tells Automotive News Europe the wagon won’t reach the American market until well after it debuts in Europe next year.
Porsche will unveil the redesigned sedan version of the Panamera at the Paris auto show in September. The car will then go on sale in Europe later late this year and in the U.S. in 2017.
The low-slung 2+2 wagon, expected to enter the European market in 2017, is a style known in the region as a shooting brake. The term once referred to sporty two-door wagons but has been expanded in recent years to include four-door iterations.
Zellmer tells ANE that Porsche also is studying ways to reconfigure the rear seating area to accommodate a third passenger. The online newspaper says U.S. customers expect seating for five in a two-row vehicle.
