Porsche AG’s all-new Panamera Turbo has set a new track record for a luxury sedan at Germany’s famed Nurburgring Nordschleife course with a time of 7 minutes and 38 seconds.
The second-generation Panamera’s time bests the previous record by a full second, which was set by an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, on the twisting 12.9-mile circuit. It also is more than 14 seconds faster than the first-generation Panamera.
The 2017 Panamera Turbo is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that makes 550 hp and 567 lb-ft of torque. The sedan can zip from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds (with an optional Sport Chrono package) on its way to a top speed of 180 mph.
The Radical SR8 LM coupe has the fastest overall time at Nurburgring, clocking in at six minutes and 48 seconds with a run in 2009. Only three other vehicles—the Radical SR8 (6:56) Porsche 918 Spyder (6:57) and Lamborghini Aventador LP (7:59)—have broken the 7-minute barrier.
