Nelson Piquet Jr. won the first season of the FIA Formula-E series for electric vehicles.

With a fourth-place finish earlier this week in the London ePrix race, Piquet and his e.dams-Renault car were able to stay ahead of Sebastien Buemi by one point to take home the championship. Lucas di Grassi finished third. Piquet won two of the series' 11 races this season.

The e.dams-Renault crew was the highest-scoring team, followed by Dragon Racing and the Audi Sport ABT team.

For the inaugural season, all drivers piloted an all-electric Spark-Renault with an electronic powertrain from McLaren Electronics and a 200-kW battery supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering.

Teams will be able to develop their own vehicles and technologies next year. The Spark-Renault e-racer has a top speed of 150 mph and can zip from zero to 60 mph in three seconds.
