Piech: I’m Not Trying to Remove Volkswagen CEO Winterkorn

Volkswagen AG Chairman Ferdinand Piech tells Bild, "I am not pushing the dismissal of [CEO] Martin Winterkorn."

Earlier media reports said Piech remains intent on removing Winterkorn before VW's shareholder meeting on May 5.

Broadcaster NDR says Piech does not feel bound by last week's decision by VW's six-man senior supervisory board, of which he is a member, to back Winterkorn. NDR says Piech is continuing to seek support of the Piech and Porsche families to replace Winterkorn.

Piech raised the question of Winterkorn's future at VW two weeks ago by telling Der Spiegel he had "distanced" himself from his prot g of more than 20 years.
