Peugeot brand CEO Maxime Picat tells Automotive News Europe the company plans to increase its profitability by adding high-end variants of its existing vehicle lineup rather than developing all-new models.
Moving the brand upmarket is "the only solution" to support the company's European manufacturing base, he declares. Sister brand Citroen is doing so with its separate DS line, but Picat says Peugeot will focus instead on introducing fancier trim levels.

Picat says Peugeot, which already offers a GTI version of its 208 small car is adding an even sportier R variant. He hints at a similar strategy for the larger 308 series.
