Passenger Vehicle Sales Up 6% in India

Deliveries of new cars, crossovers and SUVs in India grew 6% to 231,600 units in May, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

The trade group reports that car sales slipped about 1% to 159,000 units last month. But deliveries of SUV/crossovers surged 36% to 58,800 units.

SIAM reports May sales of commercial vehicles climbed 17% to 57,100 units. Deliveries of two-wheelers rose 10% to 1.5 million, buoyed by a 25% jump to 455,000 in sales of scooters.
