GreenPeak Technologies BV and Dusun Electron Ltd. are introducing a new smartphone application in China to help motorists find available parking spots in congested cities. The service is currently being launched in Wuxi in China's Jiangsu province.
The system requires parking facilities to place wireless sensors in every parking space. The sensors determine whether a spot is occupied or empty and relays the information to the cloud and then to a user's smartphone.
Based on user inputs, such as destination, how far they are willing to walk and parking costs, the app directs drivers to the closest available spot that meets their criteria. Potential upgrades to the system include online reservations and flexible pricing based on usage rates.
Dusun developed the application and integrated cloud infrastructure for the program. GreenPeak developed the sensor and networking technology and a patented radio chip that works in multi-level concrete structures.
GreenPeak, a Utrecht, Netherlands-based semiconductor company, was formed in 2007 when Xanadu Wireless and Belgium's Ubiwave merged. Zhejiang, China-based Dusun specializes in cloud-based databases.
