Volkswagen AG's Porsche unit has unveiled a wagon version of its four-door sedan, dubbed the Panamera Sport Turismo.

The concept, revealed yesterday at the Paris auto show, sports a plug-in hybrid powertrain, four-point LED headlamps and rearview cameras in lieu of outside mirrors.

The car's parallel hybrid powertrain consists of a V-6 supercharged engine rated at 333 hp and a 95-hp electric motor that deliver a combined 416 hp. A lithium-ion battery that stores 9.4 kWh of energy provides about 18 miles of electric-only range and can be recharged in as little as 2.5 hours.

Porsche says the powertrain a variant of the hybrid system it already offers in the Panamera sedan and Cayenne crossover can propel the wagon from zero to 62 mph in less than six seconds. The concept emits about 82 g/km of carbon dioxide and is rated at 81 mpg on the European test cycle, according to the company.

Porsche describes the wagon only as a "possible" car of tomorrow, but media reports say the model is very likely to go into production.
