PSA Group’s Opel workers in Germany are demanding that the company invest in the brand’s German facilities and future products in exchange for contract concessions, Reuters reports.
Yesterday PSA described several future European production assignments for powertrain programs but didn’t include mention any facilities in Germany. The company indicated it would not commit to further investment in the country without labor concessions on wages and work rules that would help make its Opel operations more efficient.
PSA has repeatedly complained about Opel’s high production costs since acquiring the company from General Motors Co. last summer. Earlier today Opel’s management reiterated its willingness to invest in plant upgrades and new vehicle programs in Germany—but only by “creating competitive structures” there.
