Adam Opel AG says it has reached "binding and reliable" agreements with labor union IG Metall about severance payments to workers at its factory in Bochum, Germany.
The General Motors Co. unit announced two years ago that it planned to shut down the plant by 2016 when the current-model Zafira minivan made there is replaced. Opel has been negotiating terms with the union since then.
GM has not revealed what the deal will cost. But last month Reuters cited unidentified sources who put the price at €550 million or more. That amount does not include the cost of site cleanup and shifting Zafira production to Opel's plant in Russelsheim.
